    The Hard is an area of Portsmouth in Portsea. It mostly encompasses the road between the Historic Dockyard entrance and just past Portsmouth Harbour station.     There were lots of "Royal Oak" pubs in Portsmouth. This one was probably in Queen Street.

    This is the house that Isambard Kingdom Brunel was born in (Thanks Allypally). https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Portsmouth_Britain_Street_Isambard_Kingdom_Brunel_plaque.JPG Britain Street remains, but none of the original houses appear to be still standing. Year unknown.
